Aguas Calientes is the departure and arrival point for visitors wishing to explore the impressive citadel of Machu Picchu. Surrounded by beautiful mountains and lush vegetation, Aguas Calientes offers travelers a unique experience in a natural and culturally rich environment.

It is located in a narrow valley surrounded by mountains and lies at an altitude of approximately 2,040 meters above sea level.

Machu Picchu, the famous Inca citadel, is located on a mountain near Aguas Calientes. From the town, Machu Picchu can be reached by bus or by a steep hike on trails leading to the entrance of the archaeological site.

What to do in Aguas Calientes?

Visit the hot springs: As its name suggests, Aguas Calientes has natural hot springs. You can relax and enjoy a dip in the hot spring pools to unwind after a day of exploration.

It is also advisable to buy the tickets for Machu Picchu in advance, since the number of tickets offered daily is limited.

- Make the most of your time: If you wish to visit Machu Picchu on the same day, consider taking one of the first trains to the citadel. This will allow you not only to arrive early but also to enjoy the views and the magical atmosphere before the crowds arrive.
